As our favorite human bean grows, matures, and becomes more independent, she is taking steps to branch out on her own. This weekend, the dynamic duo, or the A-Team as they call themselves, will travel to Butler to participate in the Spring Fling at Butler County Country Club. Soroptimist International of Butler County hosts the event from 10 to 1 p.m. The event is only open to ticket holders. Ticket sales are pre-sale only; no tickets will be available at the door. This event will be the first of hopefully many that The Bean takes the lead and plans, organizes, registers, and works. I have the utmost confidence in my kid and her abilities.
The Bibbed Wonder had The Bean pack soaps and moisturizers last weekend. They organized inventory, made sure the Square credit card reader was charging, planned and cleaned the display, and are working through the setup process. Eric intended to have The Bean drive to Butler, but we both agree she's not ready to make that journey quite yet. He will drive, help her set up, and do the heavy lifting, but she is the frontman of this show.
She has always taken our small business seriously, and understands she represents our business, brand, and family. I think she will do a great job. I am not the least bit worried about her job performance. She has a bit of an incentive to work hard because the more she sells, the more she earns. We will cover our wholesale costs for the products; anything above wholesale will be money in her pocket. It is a win/win scenario. With her being able to participate in smaller shows, the business has more exposure in areas we have not been able to cover in the past, she has the opportunity to earn a nice income in just a few hours, and she gets invaluable life experience.

She does not like that we set boundaries for her income and earnings. I insist that a percentage needs to go into savings or be invested, a portion should go towards her car fund, and she keeps a portion for spending money. I wholeheartedly believe that she needs to learn strong money management skills early on to benefit her in the future. I think money management is something all young people should know before graduating from high school. Young people need to understand the pitfalls of credit cards, understand credit card debt, be able to budget realistically, save for the future, understand investing and how it can work for them, and most importantly, know they can stand on their own two feet and take care of their responsibilities. I want my girl to be self-sufficient and good with finances.
If you are inclined, please send some good thoughts for Jordan this weekend. I hope she has a successful event and decides she wants to do this more frequently. In my little mind, it makes sense and seems like a good choice. If you have tickets to the Spring Fling event, I would appreciate it if you stop by and give Jordan a few words of encouragement. Soroptimist International is a wonderful organization that helps young women and women of all ages get back on their feet and creates an opportunity for success.
On this snowy spring day, stay safe, be smart, support those coming up, and keep washing your hands.
Way to sprout Bean! I love your initiative and your heart towards others. Learn master money management now. It gets exponentially more complicated and harder to learn later. Go A-Team.
