Welcome to Friday, dear reader. We made it through another week; good for us! I must be transparent, I did not put much effort into cooking this week. My never-ending kitchen project has taken most of my time, energy, and focus. Last night, we had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Yeah, it's been that kind of week. However, the timing is impeccable, because if you are within driving distance, my dear friend, Julia, is opening her bakery today!
Aunt Julia's Donuts now has a brick and mortar location just outside of Indiana, in the tiny hamlet of Shelocta. The bakery is located at 9160 Shelocta, PA. It is located right along Route 422. A few weeks ago, we got a bakery tour while it was awaiting inspection. Oh, my goodness! Julia turned a diamond into the rough into a sparkling gem. The space is modern, fresh, and the attention to detail is perfection. The kitchen area is a baker's dream. Julia had an island built that runs approximately eight feet. It's beautiful.
I am so happy that my sweet, hard-working friend is finally realizing her dream. As long as I have known Julia, she has discussed opening a brick-and-mortar bakery. So, seeing her work through the process, make all her dreams a reality, and doing it with such grace makes me very proud of my friend. I call her a boss in a bonnet because she is such an amazing businesswoman. My nickname for her always makes her little cheeks turn red, and she laughs.
Today is the big day. Julia messaged last night and shared that today is her opening day, and she was making donuts as she messaged. I have had the privilege of trying Julia's pies, bread, hand pies, cookies, and of course, her donuts. Everything she makes has been divine. Her raspberry and cream pie was to die for! I do not know what is on the menu besides donuts, but rest assured, you can't go wrong with any of Julia's creations.
If you are local or within driving distance, I strongly encourage you to visit Shelocta, support this wonderful new small business, the most kind-hearted business owner, and enjoy the best donuts ever. On this overcast Friday, stay safe, be smart, support a wonderful bakery, and keep washing your hands.
